Career Based Learning Experiences

Elkhorn Area School District offers a variety of  career based learning experiences (CBLE's) where students can work in and learn more about a chosen occupational career field that is aligned with their academic career plan. Students can choose a program from the following options that best fits into their academic schedule:

       * Job Shadow
       * Internship
       * Youth Apprenticeship
       * State Certified Co-op

Program Objectives:

       * Helps prepare students for meaningful employment
       * Provides opportunities for the student to develop personal and social
          qualities that will be helpful to them when they need to make
          personal, occupational and educational decisions
       * Allows students to connect classroom learning to occupational
       * Develops and strengthens employability skills
       * Builds a network of contacts for the students as they continue to grow 
          and develop in their career field

Program Eligibility

       * Genuine interest in the CBLE program
       Parental support secured to participate
       Junior or senior standing
       Adherence to all specific program requirements and expectations

Application Process

       Students need to meet first with their counselor and then the CTE
          Coordinator to determine scheduling and the appropriate application
          process (CTE Coordinator: JoAnne Pella - pelljo@elkhorn.k12.wi.us)
       Complete the application paperwork and submit to CTE Coordinator
       Develop a current resume


The internship is a one trimester commitment with a minimum of 75 hours of either paid or unpaid  work experience and is worth .5 credit.

Youth Apprenticeships

Youth Apprenticeships is a one year commitment by the student that requires a minimum of 450 hours of paid work experience.The three trimester course is worth 1.5 credits and requires related classroom instruction.

State Certified Co-Op

State Certified Co-Op is a one year commitment with a minimum of 450 hours of paid work experience and is worth 1.5 credits.
